Upper Dolpo & She Gompa Trek -23 Days

Upper Dolpo & She Gompa Trek -23 Days

Trip Overview

The Upper Dolpo & She Gompa Trek is an extraordinary journey into one of Nepal’s most remote and least explored regions. Nestled in the northwestern Himalayas, Upper Dolpo remains a hidden gem, offering trekkers an unparalleled blend of natural beauty, ancient culture, and spiritual significance. This trek takes adventurers through high-altitude landscapes, deep valleys, and traditional Tibetan-influenced villages, providing a rare glimpse into a way of life unchanged for centuries.

Organized by Tethys Himalayas, this trek is designed for seasoned trekkers seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure. The journey begins with a scenic flight to Juphal, followed by days of trekking through rugged terrain, crossing high passes like Numa La (5,190m) and Baga La (5,070m). Along the way, trekkers encounter breathtaking vistas of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges, alongside pristine alpine lakes such as Phoksundo, known for its mesmerizing turquoise waters.

A highlight of the trek is the visit to She Gompa, a revered Buddhist monastery over 800 years old, nestled at the base of Crystal Mountain. This sacred site, an important pilgrimage destination, offers a deep spiritual connection and insight into Tibetan Buddhism. The surrounding region is part of Shey Phoksundo National Park, home to rare wildlife such as the elusive snow leopard, blue sheep, and Himalayan griffon.

The cultural aspect of the trek is equally fascinating, as trekkers engage with the indigenous Dolpo-pa people, who maintain their traditional lifestyle of yak herding and barley farming. Their unique customs, dialects, and spiritual beliefs create an immersive experience, making this journey as much about cultural discovery as it is about adventure. The region’s isolation has preserved its authenticity, offering a glimpse into a world far removed from modern civilization.

With its breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural encounters, and challenging yet rewarding trails, the Upper Dolpo & She Gompa Trek is a must for those seeking a truly remote and spiritual adventure. Tethys Himalayas ensures a well-organized and unforgettable trekking experience, providing expert guides and logistical support to navigate this rugged terrain. This trek is an opportunity to step into a timeless world and experience the raw beauty of the Himalayas like never before.
